In the mid-1980s, Scout Boats founder and CEO Steve Potts served as plant manager for American Sail boats. Potts had been involved with the shipbuilding industry since the age of 14 and knew that one day he would create his own boats.

Scout Boats is a true American success story. Working part-time, weekends and nights, Potts was able to save $ 50,000 and found his company in South Carolina. The first ship he built in 1990 was a humble 14-foot fishing boat. The excellent finish made it stand out from the competition. The first Potts boats built in garages and sheds began to gain a reputation for their creator. The pursuit of excellence paid off as the world emerged from the 2008 economic crisis. While the shipbuilding industry was shaken by material problems for customers, Scout Boats released 18 new models. For several years, the company has grown by 25% annually.

Scout Boats owns a large, constantly expanding shipyard in Summerville, South Carolina. The total area of production facilities exceeds 19 thousand square meters.
